I've been home for two weeks already, can't believe it. It feels like I signed off yesterday. We went back to the vet with the dog today. She is a lot better than last Friday, but we need to continue with her treatment, which is now four different eye-drops and salve... To make this even better she shall have some of it once every day, some twice and another one four times... Just to be safe she got painkillers as well. So, most of the day is about her medicine, lucky I don't work at the moment:-)

I'm signing on in three weeks. As it looks right now I will change ship and work at one of the sister vessels for six weeks. Since I've spent almost four years on Companion I feel happy about it, it's about time for me to see something else. Though the ships are almost identical I'm sure it will be very different anyway. This vessel has mixed crew, which is completly new for me. Looking forward to see what it's going to be like.

This picture is from our last trip. Piston overhaul in Baltimore. We had all the time in the world, so we focused on teaching the ones who haven't participated in this kind of job before. I have done it several times, but there were things I needed to improve, so I felt it was a very instructive day for me as well. I like those bigger engine jobs, too bad we don't have time to do them ourselves so often. Most of the time we just have landbased companies coming on board and doing it for us.

I've spent almost the entire day in a waiting room... My dog has been having problems with her eyes for almost a week and today I finally decided it was time to have a vet look at her. She's 13 years old, so I was almost sure she was getting blind and that it wouldn't be anything to do about it, that's why I waited so long. I went to the "local" vet and all she could tell was that there was a small sore in one of the eyes. She didn't want to treat it without having an expert looking at it, so we went to the big animal hospital in the city. Late afternoon, coming as an emergency, need I say more... We came in at 3 and at 6 they let us into an emergency room. The vet showed up at 7 and we were finished by 8. Well, not quite, I had to go to the pharmacy as well, so I was home around 9.

Well, at least I know a little more about myself after this. I'm not the person you should have around when treating eye injuries... At first it worked out fine, I assisted the vet and held her head (the dog's head, not the vet's) steady when she was checking the pressure in the eyes. Didn't like it, but I was hanging in there. Then she grabbed a tweezers and started to poke in the eyes and that's when I felt I had enough of it. I realized I was very close to pass out so I just let go of her head and went straight to the nearest chair. Both the vet and my boyfriend looked at me as if I was a bit weird...

My dog's name is Ina and she is an english cocker spaniel. I got her when she was about a year old. Because of my job she lives with my parents six months a year and when I am home she lives with me. Not exactly the ultimate situation for a dog, but it seems to work out just fine. That's the disadvantage having a job like mine, it makes it so much more difficult having a "normal" life beside the one that you have on board. (Which perhaps is not very normal either)

Well, not much shipping today, but I guess a little break now and then doesn't hurt...

Ooops, I did it agin! Long time since I updated my blog. The last trips nothing really interesting has hapened onboard, I guess that's the reason why. This time, however, we had a couple of really nice problems. This door was one of them. I was going to just open it, and it fell down on the floor... Typically for this ship these days and it was kind of funny, the only problem was that we don't have any fitter on board at the moment... So I just took a nap...

I signed off a couple of hours ago. I don't know what I'm going to do on my vacation yet, but I guess I will figure it out soon. Will be back soon with more pictures from my last trip!
